Phakic IOLs (intraocular lenses) are surgically implanted lenses for people seeking more permanent correction of common vision errors such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. These implants, which resemble contact lenses, are placed in either of three locations in the eye:

  • AcrySof Cachet - Angle-supported within the anterior chamber, between the clear lens in front of the eye (cornea) and the iris (colored portion of the eye),
  • Ophtec Artisan or Artiflex - Clipped to the iris, or
  • Staar Visian ICL - Just behind the iris, before the anterior surface of the crystalline lens.
